Lewis Hamilton was penalized by the stewards to start three places further back into the grid at the start of Sunday's Formula 1 Grand Prix of India.

McLaren driver gave the best time in the first free practice session of the brand new track "buddhi International" in the first edition of the race, but after the session was suspended because ignoring a yellow flag.

Mexican driver Sergio Perez Sauber received the same penalty for the Sunday after stewards ruled the track that he made such a breach as a McLaren driver, when turning 16 is working on the car near the track.

The decision of the four attendants, among whom were Hamilton and compatriot and former driver Johnny Herbert, ended the hopes of the Englishman for the second consecutive pole position this season after the launch in South Korea.
