Fenerbahce president was sentenced to six years and three months in prison

The President of the Turkish football club Fenerbahçe Aziz Yildirim was sentenced to six years and three months imprisonment. This was decided by the Turkish court which found him guilty of manipulation of football matches in the league.

The court issued a judgments for a few more people involved in the corruption scandal. Among them is former president of Giresunspor Olgun Peker.

Meanwhile, Aziz Yildirim and three other suspects were released from prison by a court decision. Turkish law allows to be released detainees after having served their particular part of the sentence.

Yildirim spent almost a year in jail during the investigation.

The court decision comes two months after the Turkish Football Federation left 16 football clubs without penalties scandal last summer.
