Xavi Hernandez began negotiations for a new contract with Barcelona, said the Spanish international's agent. Midfielder is tied with "blue-red" until the summer of 2014, with an option for two more seasons.
The management of Barcelona wants to keep Xavi for life at the club.
"Barcelona has informed us last Friday that wants to negotiate a new treaty with Xavi. The club wants him to stay until the end of his career.It is normal to start negotiations soon, because next June will be too late," said Ivan Korecha, Xavi manager, to Esport3.
The 32Â years old Spanish national spend his entire career at Barcelona and won all trophies at club and national level.
"I do not think there will be any problem to understand. So far, at least we had no differences with the club. Xavi himself wants to stay at Barcelona, "added Korecha.
Barcelona will probably suggest activation of two optional years of Xavi to the contract that will bind him up in 2016, but it is unclear whether there will be additional seasons after the new contract.
