After 20 years: Dave Whelan is no longer President of Wigan Athletic

The owner of the English Wigan Athletic Dave Whelan abdicated at the club after a 20-year-old Government. The 78-year-old Whelan announced that today is no longer a part of the management of the 'latics'.
His role of President will be occupied by his son, David Sharpe, who was only 23 years old, and Whelan remains the owner.
'The time has come to give up the reins. I'm approaching 80-s anniversary and I spend more and more time abroad and cannot attend the games. This is a decision that deliberately in the past years and I think that David is now ready.', said Whelan.
'Contrary to some claims, I'm not going to sell the club. He remains in the family hands, and I'm confident that David and Executive Director Jonathan Jackson will lead us forward wisely.', he said in an official statement.
