The Croatian State Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against Luka Modric for a perjury. The Real Madrid footballer is accused that on June 13 he gave false testimony during the trial against the former President of Dynamo (Zagreb) Zdravko Mamic.
Six days before Modric was subpoenaed to testify in the case of alleged concealment of income from the transfer of the midfielder to Tottenham in 2008, Then 31-year-old national of Croatia stated that in 2004 he signed with the club annex for the possible allocation of revenue in upcoming transfers. The prosecution, however, argued that this was a lie, because two years ago during a previous hearing he ha told that the annex was initiated only after his passage to Tottenham.
Because of the violation of the law, the player of Real Madrid was threatened with imprisonment from 6 months to 5 years.
