Confirmed: Former heads of FIFA have taken bribes

Former FIFA President Joao Havelange and former head of the Brazilian Football Confederation Ricardo Teixeira received millions of dollars in bribes for transactions related to organizing the World Cup, reported BBC.

96-year-old Havelange and 64-year-old Teixeira were involved in corruption scandals among the members of Executive Committee of FIFA and marketing firm ISMM / ISL, which holds the rights to broadcast the world championships.

According to information, Havelange, who leads FIFA from 1974 to 1998 has taken 1.5

million Swiss francs (1.53 million dollars at current exchange rate) in March 1997 by the now defunct Swiss marketing company "International Sport and Leisure" (ISL).

Teixeira, a former son in law of Havelange, even received 12.7 million Swiss francs (about 13 million dollars) from ISL in the period 1992-1997.

From 1992 to 2000 in the accounts associated with both, even translated a total of 22 million Swiss francs.

At Havelange and Teixeira will not be brought criminal charges because they made an extra transaction with the Swiss Prosecutor's Office, as they returned 5.5 million francs. The Swiss marketing company "International Sport and Leisure" declared bankruptcy in 2001, having accumulated a debt of 300 million francs.

After investigation of the bankruptcy in 2008 revealed that ISL has paid bribes for a total amount of 138 million Swiss francs of various functionaries from FIFA between 1989-2001 year.
