Roberto Carlos ended his competitive career

The Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos put an official end to his football career.

The 39 year old Carlos, who is currently director of the Russian first division Anzhi Makhachkala, intended to play until the end of the year, but he changed his plans.

"Roberto was a world class player. Unfortunately he will not play," said head coach of Anzhi Guus Hiddink.

"Every master at one time must put an end. Roberto will now concentrate on the development of the new Anzhi. I believe he will help not only to dagestanskiya but also to the Russian football" added the Dutch specialty

Carlos admitted that there are ongoing negotiations for a farewell match between Real Madrid and Anzhi.

"I met with the president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez and discussed the possibility of a match between Real Madrid and Anzhi. We must select a date which is suitable for both clubs. I wish this meeting to be played in Makhachkala" said the former defender.

The Brazilian is a world champion in 2002 and has 125 games with the national team.

In his career at club level in Europe, he has played for Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Fenerbahce.
