Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was named as Footballer â„– 1 in Africa for a third consecutive year.

The national of Ivory Coast was named the winner of a ceremony in Nigeria, leaving behind John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba, who took the second and third place in the ranking.

Toure is the second player in history to win three times in a row - this did Samuel Eto'o in 2003, 2004 and 2005's. Eto'o is the most titled player with this award, there are four in his collection.

The winner of the poll shall be determined between the coaches of the national teams in Africa, and technical directors.

30-year-old Toure already has 13 goals this season, which is the best result of his career so far.

Yaya Toure was the only representative of Africa, nominated among the 23 best for the Golden Ball.
