Yao Ming put an official end to his basketball career, announced Friday. The center, which ignite and NBA China which has become one of the stars of Asian sport, withdrew from the sport at age 30.
Yao announced its decision after having been told the leadership of his Houston Rockets team that will be returned to the U.S., because of the serious injuries that dogged him over the past two years.
"Today I officially retire from basketball," said Yao Ming at a news conference in his hometown of Shanghai, attended by hundreds of reporters. "Basketball has given me so much and I want to thank the game," added the giant, who became the first foreign player selected number one in the NBA Draft in 2002. Yao Ming had 19 points on average and 9.2 rebounds per game in his eight seasons in "missiles". But he played in only five games over the past two years.
