Striker Martin Harnik gives up on further participation in Austria`s national team after having played 68 games for the past 10 years. The 30-year-old footballer who plays for Hannover u0026 039; 96 wants to open the room for the new generation in Austrian football. Austria for the new qualifying campaign will be led by former Werder (Bremen) player Franco Foda, who signed a contract for two years.
`I feel I can not cope with the tensions of matches as easily as I did it a few years ago, ` he said in a statement distributed by the Austrian Football Association.
Harnik recorded his first match for Wunderdarma in a match with the Czech Republic in 2007, and has scored 15 hits so far. He participated in the European Championships in 2008 and in 2016. In the recent World Cup qualifiers 2018 he did not play because of a trauma. Foca, who hopes to improve the team`s level, has been disappointed with Harney`s decision.
`Unfortunately, I will have to accept it, otherwise it was an important factor in my plans, ` said Foda, who will debut at the head of the team on Nov. 14 against Uruguay in Vienna.
