The great desire to play matches from the Primer League in the US will almost certainly not be realized. Earlier today, the Spanish Football Federation informed in an official letter that it would not authorize it. The idea came from the Spanish Football League, and it was even the first match for that - Girona against Barcelona in January in Miami. It was said that such games would popularize Spanish football across the ocean, and the clubs themselves would enjoy solid financial passages. Now, however, the federation will impose its veto power. The letter signed by President Louis Rubioles says the Spanish Football Federation wants to get an explanation of why this match was chosen. The headquarters are worried that the meeting could be used for political agitation, given the problems between Catalunya and central government in the Iberian country. The letter is addressed to UEFA and FIFA, which should also give their blessing for the eventual holding of such matches.
There are also potential problems due to the TV rights the Spanish clubs have signed. Nowhere in the contracts is said that matches will be moved to another country.
Separately from some clubs, such as Real Madrid, they disagreed that Girona`s home advantage was lost against their direct rival for Camp Nou.
